Just Keep Spinning: Meet Our Dedicated Spindle Lab

A simple fact of machine shop life: If the spindle ain’t turning, you ain’t making money. Whether the cause is simple wear and tear or a collision, your only priority is getting it back in service – fast! As machinists ourselves, we get it. And we’ve got answers.

Stop, Collaborate and Listen
The sound is usually the first clue that a spindle is not functioning properly (unless it actually crashed into something). If the harmonics on their spindles sound a bit off, Doosan customers can create an audio file of the spindle in operation and email it to our Spindle Lab. We will use our proprietary Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS) to conduct a spectrum analysis that relatively measures failure [indicators generated by a faulty] spindle.

You heard that right. Our guys don’t even have to see the machine to know if something is up with the spindle. “Noise analysis, comparing [a sample] with the [benchmark profile in our] database, is the best tool for diagnosing failures since it is scientific and cost-efficient,” said Louis Oh, Doosan’s Spindle Lab Manager and designer of the IQMS. “It can determine if a spindle is good or bad with 99.9% accuracy.”

Our lab analysis confirms damage or gives Doosan customers peace of mind within 24 hours at no cost.

Fast Quality Rebuilds
If the spindle is damaged, we give you a quote on rebuilding it. The location of the service depends on efficiency, time and cost. Smaller or high RPM models, machining center spindles or more complex multi-function machines are shipped to our dedicated Spindle Lab in New Jersey. Because of their size, and the difficulties involved with removing them, big turning center spindles are usually rebuilt on-site at your location.

Either way, you’ll be back in operation within 3 to 5 days. How do we do it so fast? Our technicians have years of experience on Doosan machines as well as immediate access to a complete inventory of genuine Doosan parts. It also helps that our Spindle Lab is located right here in the US of A.

The Spindle Lab: Dedicated to Service
Our Spindle Lab was designed specifically for the purpose of servicing spindles. Doosan specialists perform a complete analysis to guarantee all potential issues are addressed. The natural frequency of the spindle is tested to verify its preload, and the lock nut is tightened with a torque wrench to achieve preload specifications. Then the IQMS program is run to pinpoint any problems. This is followed by a complete tear down and inspection to check for bearing issues, balancing, etc.

For verification, all spindles are tested for 1 to 2 days in our state-of-the-art CNC test module that duplicates the exact conditions of your Doosan machine. This includes reliability testing, temperature monitoring, and balancing and vibration analysis.

We Keep Your Spindle in Top Condition
The top priority of our technicians in the field and the Spindle Lab is to get you back to machining as quickly as possible. If your spindle needs service, that’s really all you need to know.
